
Clarks’ Spring sale went extremely well with fabulous prices achieved throughout for their sellers. The private collection of thirty eight loose full gold sovereigns sold for an average of £535 each including a top priced 1826 George IV of which, despite some wear, still made £1000 at the hammer. This sale saw a private consignment of Robert Goossens designed costume jewellery that once belonged to Catherine Leaney, who operated the switchboard at Cartier’s Bond Street branch in London. The collection as a whole saw a hammer price of £5913, top price of £420 being achieved for a necklace set.
Watches remain very popular with collectors & investors alike. A 1967 Rolex 5513 submariner achieved a great price of £8200 at the hammer despite no paperwork & condition issues while a boxed Tag Heure Calibre 5 Aquaracer achieved £1050. A Tag Heure Searacer with no paperwork (£640), a 9ct gold cased Omega with condition issues (£380), a Robert Gerths pocket watch (£1700), a Dimier Freres half hunter pocket watch (£2300) & a boxed Seiko 5 automatic (£130) all caught the bidders eye.
An Irish bracket clock developed excitement on the Emerald Isle when three telephone bidders eventually defeated an internet bidder at £2200 followed by a Jaeger LeCoulture Atmos clock making £760. An attractive pair of Alfred Pollentine Venetian oils saw internet interest at £3100 & are heading to a London home. Another good decorators piece was a small Lorenzl bronze which saw bids of £1200 & a tourist piece Pietra Dura table secured a great price for its kind of £1000, selling to a west country bidder. Other furniture pieces that attracted interest included a Hepplewhite style bookcase from a beautiful St. German’s property (£520), a mahogany chest of drawers (£110), a mahogany bedside cabinet (£110), a George III mahogany sideboard (£280) & a Georgian chair (£180).
Silver sold well throughout the sale with a hunting cup making £700 & a horticultural cup achieving £400. A five stone diamond ring attracted a lot of interest & eventually secured £3000 at the hammer & £2800 was achieved for a charm bracelet from the same home. An emerald & diamond ring (£700), a 9ct gold amethyst ring (£300), a Sumerian seal (£600) & a 9ct gold bracelet with small diamonds (£760) all found new keepers.
