Clarks’ final sale of 2021 proved a real success with some fabulous results across the board. Auctioneer Paul Clark said, “It’s been a very tough year, far tougher than 2020, however we are still here achieving fantastic results for our sellers & full of optimism for 2022”.
A vendor who recently downsized to Cornwall from their home in Avon, saw a large gilt framed oval mirror make £1300 & a Regency period drum table defy current “brown furniture” trends when securing a whopping £1650 at the hammer. A copper & brass ships compass was offered up & a tremendous online tussle was eventually settled at £370 while a selection of military related cap badges made £120 to a room bidder. A collection of pre-1919 silver coinage again saw an internet battle on the-saleroom being eventually won at £1100 while an album of photocards which included Ottoman Empire political hangings made an impressive £340.
Jewellery invariably does well at the Heathlands Road based saleroom & a Hans D Kreiger necklace & pendant with some small, but fine diamonds saw room interest just triumph over the internet at £1400. A small diamond & sapphire ring (£460) & a ladies gold Etna watch (£840) are other items that caught the eye of online bidders.
Four charming A. A. Milne books made £160 while interest in a small lot of antique ephemera, which included a diary of a trip from Plymouth to Quebec made £150. Two Beswick shire horses (£170) & a Copeland pot & cover (£100) showed the market for ceramics still has life in it while a British Thomson Houston Ltd. crystal radio found a new home at £120. A Nikkormat FT3 35mm camera proved the photography collector’s area is remaining strong when making £70 & a 19thC. apprentice piece dressing table mirror gained bids of £60.
Auctioneer Paul Clark said, “The market for selling remains extremely strong – there really has not been a better time to sell for some time”, adding “We are happy to take appointments for consignments if people find this more reassuring during these times”.
We now head straight to their traditional & very popular specialist New Year’s Day sale for which entries are sought. There have already been some numerous fine entries so anything submitted will be in good company. Closing date is December 3rd.
