Our Collectors Sale on Monday 18th September has been attracting some interesting entries. Recently submitted for sale were a small collection of antique Chinese snuff bottles. One of the bottles is a Cantonese enamelled bottle which is marked & period. Dating to c.1830, the snuff bottle was made under the reign of Emperor Daoguang between 1820 & 1850. A guide price of £100-200 is attached.
Numerous other intriguing entries have been received. A 19thC. Gilbert Islands dagger made up with incredibly sharp sharks teeth asks £100-200 whilst a rare 18thC. Chippendale mahogany butlers tray asks similar. Military items invariably attract interest & a WW1 tortoiseshell cigarette case inlaid with large 9ct gold plaque with inscription presented to E. M. Willan of Croix Rouge Française for her work at the B.T.H. Munitions factory, Willesdon (YMCA) in Oct. 1916 to Jan 1917 by the British Committee of the English Ladies’ Canteens along with her inscribed silver bracelet, hopes to attract bids of £600-800.
There are even some ceramics on offer. The piece most likely to attract serious interest is a small 19thC. Wemyss pottery tea set which should have no problems meeting its £200-300 guide. Royal Albert Country Roses has defied the downturn in modern services & remains very popular. A sixty seven piece tea, coffee & cake service really ought to find a new home at £100-150.
There are several lots of medals but the one that should attract the most interest is a father & his two sons family set which we acquired locally. The medals including Victorian African medal with South Africa 1902 & Cape Colony bar, bearing 2367 Pte. E. Mead C.G DS inscription & his two sons WW1 sets bearing inscriptions 34927 Pte. F. J. Mead SOM. L.I. & 6475 Pte. E. J. Mead Som. L. I. respectively. The medals hope to achieve interest at around £300-500.
The auction starts at 11am with viewing Sunday 17th September from 10am-4pm & morning of the sale.
